Please take a look here http://indusminiatures.blogspot.com/2011/07/welcome-to-indus-miniatures.html

All work bench updates will still be done on this blog.

The Maratha Confederacy

The Maratha Confederacy was an Indian imperial power that existed from 1674 and 1818. It was founded by Shivaji. He waged war with the Mughals for 27 years from 1681 to 1707. The longest war ever waged in India. (Wikipedia).

(Picture above from Osprey's Men at Arms #263)

Other wars fought:

Battle of Panipat -against the Afghans (1761)
First Anglo-Maratha War (1777-1783)
Second Anglo-Maratha War (1803-1805)
Third Anglo-Maratha War, also known as the Pindari War (1817-1818)

Maratha on horseback.
Hopefully I will have some sculpts to share this weekend!

Early Sepoys - "Peons"

When the European "East India Companies" (EIC) set up trading posts in India in the early 1700's they used locals to augment their small forces. The Dutch called them "Peons" (countrymen). These men were untrained locals led by local Zemindars or other local rulers. They would be equipped with any of the following: matchlocks, swords , spears and/or shields.

The sculpt's below are based off of the print in Osprey Men at Arms #453 - Armies of the East India Company.

These can be used from 1700 up until the mutiny. They could also serve several purposes beside Sepoys  - like Indian Pirates, Bad mashes, Darkest Africa mercenaries to name a few. They could augment any Indian force (Mysore, Mahratta, Mogul, Rajput etc) as irregulars or even Princely Sepoys.

Getting closer to production....

Enjoy! Ashok

Lead is in..more comparison shots

Its been a while since I have posted. Been busy with work and family, soccer tournaments etc. I just got some lead casts in last week. I am still waiting on my archers to arrive so I can have my first production mold made.

In the mean time here are a few comparison shots.

Let me preface this by saying I am NOT a good painter.

Below is a comparison of a Sadhu from the old "London War Room" and Hindu militia from the Falcon Miniatures range.

This next picture is a comparison with a Wargames Foundry's Afghan and Baluchi.

Cheers Ashok!

New Hindu Archer Greens

I am quite fond of these sculpts.
I am getting a lot questions about my plans with all these sculpts. My plans right now are to have enough different sculpts to open a web store or partner with a current dealer. As soon as all these are available I will post on here and advertise on TMP. Most of the lag time is between the sculpting and shipping etc. I plan to do head and weapon variants where possible too. So this will be work in progress. But if you have specific questions please email me. Thanks! Hope you enjoy.

Rajput leader's - Updated

Here is a Rajput Leader that the sculptor has just finished. This sculpt was based on the Osprey illustration in Mughal India (#263). I have another one being completed and also some archers. I will hopefully have all those up this weekend sometime once some minor changes are done to the greens.
Enjoy!

Ebob Horse Comparison

I have decided to use Ebobs (http://www.ebobminiatures.com/) Medium horses for my project. Please note the Ebob horse is not put together and the tail is not attached. Here is a comparison shot with a Wargames Foundry - India range horse and a Perry Muslim range horse. Different positions but it gives you an idea of size. They will look just fine on the table together. Ebobs horse is very nice anatomically. In my humble opinion a much better sculpt.

Rajput Noble- Updated

Here is a Rajput Noble I had commissioned. I have it next to a Perry Muslim (yes there is some flash) so you can compare. Please bare with me as I am learning the best way to photograph these little guys as well. Also playing with Picassa as I go.

New picture added - Wargames Foundry Comparison

I expect to have more comparisons with other makers as we go along. Archers should be up next week. I am very excited to see how those turned out!

I have decided to go with eBob's medium horses as well. And I will have comparison photo's up shortly.

Please notice my poll below as well.

Enjoy!

Rajput Hindu militia

This originally started out as a small project . Now I have decided to start a line of 28mm miniatures that will cover India from the 1550's to 1850's. It is something that I have always wanted to do and just recently decided to invest a substantial amount of money to get this accomplished. Obviously this is "work in progress" and thought I would share this with everyone. These are the 4 sculpts that I have had done so far. I haven't decided if I am going to open my own web store or have another company distribute the line of figures. I am open to comments and what people would like to see next. I have some Archers and Armored Rajputs being done now.

Disclaimer: This is my first attempt at a blog so I am still learning...

I also have some interest in the American Revolution/American War of Independence. But more about that later..
